Applies to:

Centrify Identity Service, App Edition

Question:

Why do Mac computer names show as service users in the Admin Portal?

Answer:

When you enroll a Mac, a 'service user' is created in the cloud to allow the Mac itself to make use of certain cloud APIs directly.  (machine$)

Service users have limited access to the cloud and its associated APIs (its not a typical user).

The cloud uses computer name to generate the service user name and it will show up in various reports.
