KB-8153: AuditStore DB is offline if Management Database logon account is a virtual account

Centrify DirectAudit ,

2 February,17 at 12:24 AM

Applies to: Direct Audit Suite 2016.1 (5.3.1) on all supported platforms

Problem:
AuditStore Database goes offline if the Management Database logon account is a virtual account.

Cause:
The permissions assigned to an outgoing account (DOMAIN\SQL$) are not sufficient enough when the Management Database is hosted on a SQL server whose service account is a virtual account (NT SERVICE\MSSQLSERVER) and Audit Store Database is hosted on another SQL instance on the same server and that server is running under domain admin account.

Workaround:
Create a login for NT SERVICE\MSSQLSERVER on Audit Store Database and add this login to be a member of 'db_owner' role of the Audit Store database. Once done, the Audit Store DB will come back online. If db_owner permission cannot be assigned, the same result can be achieved by adding this login to be a member of 'db_securityadmin' role.

Note:
All other accounts (Network Service, Local System, domain user etc.), work as expected without the need of granting the additional role.

Resolution:
Will be fixed in a future release.
