KB-7715: Apple discontinuing Portal home directory sync

Centrify Identity Service, Mac Edition ,

1 November,16 at 08:42 AM

Applies to: Centrify Identity Service Mac Edition with macOS Sierra (10.12)

Question:
With Apple dropping the feature of portable home, how would this affect the user home synchronization with Centrify on macOS 10.12?

Answer:
Centrify relies on Apple's File Sync Agent to perform synchronization on portable home. However as Apple dropped their File Sync Agent and did not provide a new solution, there is no way to sync the local home to network home as File Sync Agent is no longer available to do the task. Hence unless Apple brings back their File Sync Agent or provides with a new solution to the synchronization of portable home, Centrify will no longer support the feature with macOS 10.12 onwards.
In order to have the portable home synchronization working, customer may need to seek for other workarounds for the missing File Sync Agent.
