KB-7644: Unable to access to Centrify joined Mac Server using smb protocol

Centrify Identity Service, Mac Edition ,

8 November,16 at 07:32 AM

Applies to:

All version of Centrify Identity Service, Mac Edition

Problem:

No matter the credential is correct or not, end users are not able to access (smb) to the Centrify joined mac Server share while using IP address.

Cause:

With the current Centrify, we retrieved the credential format differently from the Mac Server expected format, which resulting the Mac Server unable to recognize the login user credential.

Workaround:

1) Join the Mac Server to the domain using Apple plug-in instead of Centrify, while keeping the Mac agents unmodified.

Or

2) Using Kerberos Authentication(With the Kerberos authentication option, end users will need to supply the full path instead of IP). Kerberos Authentication is the default method for Mac machines and it will automatically try to use Kerberos in the first place with proper configuration mentioned(see the below note), if fails, then it will fall into NTLM for authentication.

Note:
a) The Macs needed to be resolved by each other.
b) SPNs will need to setup properly.
