Applies to:

Centrify DirectControl 5.1.0 and newer.

Question:

Why is adclient switching connected domain controller (DC) frequently?

Answer:

This behavior is governed by the adclient configuration parameter, adclient.binding.refresh.force, in /etc/centrifydc/centrifydc.conf.

When the adclient configuration parameter, adclient.binding.refresh.force, is set to true, adclient looks for another DC to connect even when it is already connected to a preferred DC. This parameter is provided and enabled for adclient to self-balance the DC to use in preferred site. By default, it is set to look for new DC every 30 minutes.
If this parameter is set to false, adclient will not attempt to bind to another DC if it is already connected to one of preferred DCs. The drawback to this is that when a new DC is introduced to the site, adclient will not attempt to bind to the new DC since it is already connected to a preferred DC. Thus, adclient will not self-balance DC load.

Please note that adclient will look for another DC if adclient loses connectivity to the current connected DC regardless of the value of the parameter. That is, even if the parameter is set to false, adclient will attempt to find a functional DC if the current DC becomes unreachable (DC crash, network issues, etc).
