When administrators configure policy options to enable and create mobile user accounts for Mac OS X, an error may be displayed: Unable to create Mobile Account. Your FileVault home can't be reached because a folder with the same name already exists. Cause:
This message may be displayed if the administrator has configured the mobile account policy "Configure mobile account options" and selects the option for “Encrypt contents with FileVault" as shown in the below image. This setting is not required to enable FileVault2 on the Mac. Solution:
To enable automatic mobile user account creation during log in, administrators will need configure this policy "Configure mobile account options" setting to “Not Enabled.” The Administrator should instead use the GPO for enabling FileVault2 using the Computer Configuration GPO. (Often, this setting is already configured).
Once the policy is set to “Not Configured,” the policy should reflect this.
Next, on the Mac, the Administrator should log in and refresh Group Policy using Terminal. To do this, run the following command in Terminal: /usr/local/bin/ADGpupdate
Once complete, Log out and then log in as the User which will have a Mobile Account created. When prompted to "Create mobile account" again, select "Create Now" to do so.
Once logged in, the User or Administrator can confirm the Mobile Account was created by checking in System Preferences > Users & Groups > and the Network User will be shown as “Mobile” For more information on how to configure FileVault2 using group policy, please refer to the following article:
