KB-6970: Mac OS X Mobility Group Policy automatically enables Parental Controls

Centrify Identity Service, Mac Edition ,

10 June,16 at 08:09 PM

Applies to: Centrify Identity Service for Mac

Question:
When enabling the Group Policy User Configuration > Policies > Mac OS X Settings > Mobility > Mac OS X 10.8 or above Settings, why is the System Preferences > Users & Groups "Enable Parental Controls" checkbox automatically selected after the mobile account is created?

Answer:
The Enable Parental Controls mechanism will check to see if the account record has the MCXSettings attribute in it.  If the attribute is present, OS X deems the account as a 'Parental Controls enabled' account, and thus automatically enables Parental Controls.

This is expected OS X behavior, and is not a Centrify issue.
