KB-6284: Symlinks in /etc/skel/

24 February,16 at 10:48 PM

Applies to:

DirectControl 5.2.3 and earlier.

Problem:

Symlinks placed in the /etc/skel/ directory are not preserved in the new user's home directory. The file that is linked to is copied to the new home directory instead.

Resolution:

This issue has been fixed in Server Suite 2016 (DirectControl 5.3.0).
In DirectControl 5.2.3 and earlier, the presence of symlink can be checked and created as necessary using a script similar to the following:

if [ ! -L ~/Link-to-Target ]; then
   ln -fs /mnt/some-target Link-to-Target
fi
