KB-5792: Smartcard authentication will not work if ActivClient is installed before Centrify DirectControl

Centrify Identity Service, Mac Edition ,

12 April,16 at 11:46 AM

Applies to: All versions of Cenrtify DirectControl for Mac with ActivClient

Problem:
Smartcard authentication will not work if ActivClient is installed BEFORE Centrify DirectControl

Cause:
If Centrify DirectControl is installed after ActivClient, it will clobber the ActivClient plugin's ability to read the cards first. It will not pair with the correct tokend and uses the native tokend's for Mac, which interferes with the shim's ability to take PIN entry. When the PIN window comes up, the entered numbers from the keyboard PIN will NOT be taken. The only way keyboard input is allowed is if the tokend that is active is the ActivClient tokend, and then the shim works.

Workaround:
Smartcard authentication will work if ActivClient is installed AFTER Centrify DirectControl
