KB-5696: Cloud Connector setup cannot complete with error message of "Unable to communicate with the Centrify Cloud Service"

Problem:

Cloud Connector setup cannot complete with error message of "Unable to communicate with the Centrify Cloud Service":

Unable to communicate with the Centrify Cloud Service

Cause:

When reviewing the log files located at C:\Program Files\Centrify\Cloud Management Suite\log.txt, an error message can be seen:

2015-08-27 15:41:16,342 [P|(null)|(null)|d3df99f6c8424f19b98f112d46e29283|4|126|ERROR] Cfw2ServiceHost: Failure to invoke service, Service=Centrify.Cloud.Core.ADProxy.ADService Assembly=C:\Program Files\Centrify\Cloud Management Suite\ServicePlugins\Centrify.Cloud.Core.ProxyBase.dll Version=15.7.159.0: System.Configuration.ConfigurationErrorsException: The entry '*' has already been added. (C:\Program Files\Centrify\Cloud Management Suite\Centrify.Cloud.Core.ProxyHost.exe.Config line 13)

This indicates that there may be an issue with the configuration file of the connector installation as it may be holding onto an earlier configuration from other configuration file (e.g.
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\Config\machine.config), a previous install, or it could be corrupted.

Resolution:

(1) Open the config file at in a text editor: 

C:\Program Files\Centrify\Cloud Management Suite\Centrify.Cloud.Core.ProxyHost.exe.config 

Note that this file is in XML format.

(2) Around line 13, there is the following section: 

<system.net
   <connectionManagement> 
      <add address="*" maxconnection="512" /> 
   </connectionManagement> 
</
system.net

(3) Add an extra line above the "add" tag so it now reads as: 

<system.net
   <connectionManagement> 
      <remove address="*" /> 
      <add address="*" maxconnection="512" /> 
   </connectionManagement> 
</system.net


(4) And then change the following line 6: 

<enforceSettings /> 

(5) Replace this line so it now reads as: 

<enforceSettings> 
   <enforce XPath="/configuration/system.net/connectionManagment/remove[@address='*']" /> 
</enforceSettings> 


(6) Save the config file, open services.msc and restart the Centrify Cloud Connector service.
