Tips for finding Knowledge Articles

  • - Enter just a few key words related to your question or problem
  • - Add Key words to refine your search as necessary
  • - Do not use punctuation
  • - Search is not case sensitive
  • - Avoid non-descriptive filler words like "how", "the", "what", etc.
  • - If you do not find what you are looking for the first time,reduce the number of key words you enter and try searching again.

KB-4743: User syncing failing for new users of Office 365 + Provisioning (O365 v2)

The "Office 365 + Provisioning" app (O365 v2) has been added in Cloud Manager with the following configurations already set up and verified:
  • O365 admin credentials are tested and working
  • Domains have been set up as federated and owned
  • Licenses have been confirmed as valid and assigned to the appropriate Role
  • Users confirmed to be in the correct Roles

However when trying to provision users, the sync report returns a failed result and contains the message:
Reason: User could not be created in Office 365

Message: Directory Synchronization is not yet activated for this company. To activate Directory Synchronization, click the Activate button on the Directory Synchronization page in your Admin Portal

Where can this "Activate" button be found, and does this mean DirSync is still required for O365 v2 app?


The provisioning feature of the O365 v2 app effectively replaces DirSync functionality, this means DirSync does NOT need to be installed in the environment. For more information, see O365 v2 Online Documentation.

The "Activate" button from the sync report message can be found by first navigating to the O365 Admin Portal > Users > Active Users section. At the top of this panel, click the "Set up" link next to "Active Directory synchronization":

On the next page, go to Step #3, click the Activate button and confirm the action at the popup:

Step #3 will now say "Active Directory synchronization is activated". No further action is needed on this page. 

To immediately retest a user sync, go to the Cloud Manager > Users tab. Either right-click on a selected user and select "Sync All Apps", or click into their properties page and choose the option from the User Management dropdown:
