KB-4434: Recomended process to migrate Audit DB to a new server in a new domain

Auditing and Monitoring Service ,

13 July,17 at 09:43 PM

Applies to: Centrify DirectAudit

Question:

What's the recommended procedure to migrate an existing SQL DB of DirectAudit not only to a new server, but also to a new AD domain?

Answer:

If the new Domain is part of the same old forest, current migration documents will work without any issues. Please refer to  KB-3334: How to migrate SQL databases associated with a Centrify_DirectManage Audit 3.x installation from one database server to another and KB-4147: How to migrate database associated with a Centrify DirectAudit 1.x system from one database server to another.

If the new domain is in a new forest, it's better to create a new DA installation in the new forest and attach the old databases to it rather than following the migration process.

Details:

The location of domain matters more than the type of SQL server (new/old) or type of domain (new/old); if the new domain is part of the same old forest, current migration document will work without any issues (because all domains within a forest have transitive two-way trust between them). On the older hand, if new domain is part of a new forest, it's better to create a new DA installation in new forest and attach the old databases to it rather than following the migration process (just because it's tricky and not worth the effort).
