KB-4001: How to tell if the Apple AD Plugin is still active

Centrify Identity Service, Mac Edition ,

12 April,16 at 11:20 AM

Applies to: Centrify DirectControl on Mac OS X

Question:

What methods are there to determine if the native Apple AD plugin is still active on a Mac system?

Answer:

Method A: via the GUI

Go to:

System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Options

Look at the bottom of the right panel for the "Network Account Servers" section:
  • If it shows the red/green light, then the Apple AD plugin is still enabled.

  • If it shows the [ Join ] button, then it is disabled.

Method B: via Terminal / SSH

Open the Terminal or login via SSH and run the command:

/usr/sbin/dsconfigad -show

If it returns any output, then the Mac is still using the Apple AD plugin, if nothing is returned, then the plugin is inactive.

If the plugin is still active; the Mac can also be unbound from the Apple AD plugin via the command line:

/usr/sbin/dsconfigad -r -u "domain_admin_username

(Replace domain_admin_username with the actual domain admin username)
