Question:After performing Account Migration on a local account to convert it to an AD account, Microsoft Lync no longer opens correctly.
How can this be fixed?
Answer:When Microsoft Lync was opened under the previous local account profile, it created a preference file in the user home folder associated specifically to the previous local user.
Since the home folder is now associated with the AD account, the Lync preference file fails to recognise this and crashes the app.
To resolve:
- Finder > Go > Go to Folder > Navigate to:
- ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/
- Look for the one or more MicrosoftLyncRegistrationDB.*.plist files in this directory and either delete them, or back them up to another location.
- Reopen Lync, it should now successfully start and regenerate the preference files under the current AD account profile.
(Note that any previously saved Lync preferences will need to be re-entered)
