KB-2384: Running in disconnected mode: unlatch

Centrify DirectControl ,

12 April,16 at 11:46 AM

Applies to:

All versions of Centrify DirectControl earlier than 5.1

Question:

The Centrify agent on a red-hat server is logging many messages regarding the agent centrifydc status (lost connection / connected).  Is this normal behavior ? It seems excessive that the client goes from a disconnect to a connected state.

These messages are 1) concerning to the customer since the client is bouncing from one DC to another and 2) filling up messages unnecessarily.

An example:

Answer:

From the snippets of the above logs, you will notice that these message occur approximately every 30 minutes. Basically it is trying to load balance the DC and GC. This is an intentional behavior. We can make this longer ( than 30 minutes ) , or effectively stop it.

1) Centrify does switch DCs from time to time for load balancing purposes.

2) Customers can increase the /etc/centrifydc/centrifydc.conf parameter

adclient.binding.refresh.interval: 30

to reduce the frequency of the message.

3) The switchover is a little clumsy and too chatty

The issue is that the INFO message which comes from ADHealingBinding::unexpectedDisconnect(). It cannot distinguish if this is normal or something gone bad. All it knows is that it lost a connection. This is fixed in the 5.1.0 release
