KB-22508: User Has No SAM Remote Access Rights

Privileged Access Service ,

22 November,19 at 08:52 PM

Problem:

A local Windows administrator account has been added to the PAS portal at the system level. "Verify Credentials" succeeds and "Test Connection" to the system also succeeds. However, once the account is set to be managed by PAS and during a password rotation, the following error is shown:

Cause:

The account that is added does not have the rights to change its own password.

Solution:

The local administrator account (or local account trying to be managed) must be added to the following group policy object:

Network Access: Restrict clients allowed to make remote calls to SAM

1) Navigate using the following path:

Computer Configuration > Policies > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options

2) Place a check next to 'Define this policy setting' and add the LOCAL user. In this example, the local administrator on host WIN2016-2 has been added to this policy setting as that is the account that is trying to be managed in PAS.

3) Run the gpupdate /force command and try again to rotate the password for the account.
