KB-10835: Samba connectivity fails with session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE

Authentication Service ,

31 July,18 at 07:19 PM

Problem: When attempting to access a samba share the user is getting the following errors.

session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE

wbinfo -n <username> returns the following:

failed to call wbcLookupName: WBC_ERR_UNKNOWN_FAILURE

Cause: This can be caused if the machine is configured to use SSSD and not Winbind. Our ADBindproxy.pl script uses the Winbind.

Resolution:
Please reference your OS documentation on how to configure this.

For example HERE is the Redhat documentation.

Removing these packages, '
sssd-winbind-idmap' and 'sssd-libwbclient' has been shown to also resolve the issue.
