KB-10472: Android Management devices cannot open email attachment

App Access Service ,

10 July,18 at 07:46 AM

Applies to: All versions of Centrify Identity Service

Problem:

On Android Management / Android for Work enrolled devices, when trying to open attachments like Excel, Word, pdf files, users received the message "You don't have an app that can open this file. Try searching Google Play for one that can."

You don't have an app that can open this file. Try searching Google Play for one that can

However, Microsoft apps are installed on the device already.

Cause:

It is because the "Android Managed" version of the apps are not present in the work profile. User will need to have the Microsoft apps installed inside the Android Management work profile.

The "Android Managed" apps will have a small lock icon on the bottom right hand corner of the app, as seen from the screenshot below:

Resolution:

When prompted with the message "You don't have an app that can open this file. Try searching Google Play for one that can.", user can click "search" and be directed to the "Android Managed" playstore. After downloading and installing the required apps, the attachments can be downloaded and opened properly.
