KB-1004: Root or local users unable to login on AIX

Centrify DirectAudit ,   Centrify DirectControl ,   Centrify Identity Service, Mac Edition ,

12 April,16 at 11:13 AM

Applies to:

Centrify DirectControl 4.1.2 on AIX 5.3 ML8, AIX 6.1

Problem:

After the machine is joined to AD domain, root or local users are unable to login via telnet.

Cause:

IBM introduced the following changes in AIX 5.3 ML8 and on AIX 6.1 which we had to incorporate in our upcoming release 4.2:

1) The query for account_locked attribute is now is a part of an extended attribute array query.

2) The login process additionally queries Centrify LAM module about this attribute for all non AD users.

Workaround:

A) For the AIX machine which is already joined to the domain:

Edit /etc/security/user,

     1. under 'root' stanza to bypass the DirectControl LAM module for root insert:

         SYSTEM = "compat"

     2. under 'default' stanza, it has the following line:

         SYSTEM = "CENTRIFYDC OR CENTRIFYDC[NOTFOUND] AND (compat)"

     3. Modify  /etc/centrifydc/centrifydc.conf and set the parameter

adclient.autoedit.user: false.

Save the file and run 'adreload' from the command line to re-read the configuration file.

B).  For the AIX machine which is NOT joined to the domain:

Edit /etc/security/user,

       1. under the 'root' stanza add or check if this line exist

           SYSTEM = "compat"

           and update SYSTEM attribute as

           SYSTEM = "CENTRIFYDC OR CENTRIFYDC[NOTFOUND] AND (compat)"

        2.  in /etc/centrifydc/centrifydc.conf, set

adclient.autoedit.user: false.

Save the file and run 'adreload' from the command line to re-read the configuration file.

Resolution:

This will be fixed in future release of Centrify DirectControl.

Note: If you are on AIX 5.3, please install the APAR IZ02984 and upgrade to DirectControl 4.2 or higher. If you are on AIX 6.1, just upgrade to DirectControl 4.2 or higher.

You can use the following AIX command to find if the APAR is installed or not : instfix -ik APAR

Example : instfix -ik IZ02984

keyword AIX locked out
